🧭 The 8D Navigation Trap

Don't trust Google Maps walking directions in Chongqing. It might tell you to walk through a building or climb 8 flights of stairs.
Download Amap (高德地图) and always look at the 3D view. If taking a taxi, tell the driver "zou ping lu" (take the flat road).

In Chongqing, local "Medium Spicy" is foreign "Extreme Fire".
When ordering hotpot, your first sentence must be: "Wei la, yuan yang guo" (Mild spicy, half-mild half-spicy pot). Do not try to be a hero.

  • Authentic Hotpot Skip the tourist spots. Go to Community Old Hotpots or the unique Air-raid Shelter Hotpots (防空洞火锅).
    👉 Ordering Hack: "老三篇" (Tripe, Duck Intestine, Yellow Throat). Dip 7 times up, 8 times down. Dip in garlic and sesame oil.
  • Chongqing Small Noodles (重庆小面) Breakfast of champions. ¥8-15 A bowl of spicy noodles.
    👉 Show this: "Er liang wan za jiang, gan liu." (2 liang of peas & meat sauce noodles, dry mixed).
  • Riverside Night BBQ Go after 21:30. Jiujie (九街) or Jiaochangkou (较场口). Grilled brain (烤脑花) is a must-try!

  • Hongyadong (洪崖洞) It's 100% FREE. Do not buy VIP fast passes.
    👉 How to walk: Enter at 1F (street level), take the elevator to 11F, and walk down. Best photo spot is from Qiansimen Bridge.
  • Liziba Monorail (李子坝) Train goes through a building. Free viewing platform. Best time: 07:30-09:00 or 17:00-19:00.
  • Yangtze River Cableway (长江索道) ¥30 Single ride is enough. Buy tickets online to skip the 1-hour queue.

  • Huangguang Escalator (皇冠大扶梯) Asia's 2nd longest escalator. ¥2. A sci-fi experience.
  • Jiaotong Teahouse (交通茶馆) In Huangjueping. A 30-year-old local teahouse. ¥10-15 for a bowl of tea. Zero tourists.
